REAL PATIENT DAY!

Okay well today went pretty well for the most part. I was SO nervous about this! Last night I kept having dreams about things that kept going wrong and I woke up a little scared for the day haha. I am glad that my husband was my first patient. If I was to have a complete stranger I think I would have had a panic attack. It was nice to have him write down probe depths for me and to allow me to poke him. I had enough time to scale one quad and I was feeling pretty confident and then came the scale check.............. ya i missed like 8 spots and could not feel them whatsoever....Yeah that was not fun at all. I just wish we could have more practice before we actually start patients next semester.

Mock Patient Day #4 LAST ONE!

Today went pretty well... I wish I was a little faster at probing. I am not a fan of probing yet probably because it takes about 45 minutes to do it! Megean was a super good pt to have she helped me out a ton with writing down the prob measurements. I only scaled one quad today and of course she had no calculus but it still took me the whole scale time because I wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything even though there wasnt anything haha.

Mock Patient Day #3

Today we had another mock patient day. I was the patient and was so grateful for that! I wanted to be able to watch how everything went again. Megan worked on me and she did a great job! I am getting a little nervous for real patients.... I just don't feel ready.... Oh well at least my husband is my first patient so if I mess up I wont be so embarrassed! Wednesday I will be the operator on Megan... hopefully it goes well :)

Air Poweder Polisher, Intrument Sharpening, and Sealant PEs

Today we passed off PE s for the majority of the time. For some reason instrument sharpening isnt clicking so well for me when it comes to all the different instruments....... We went over PSR and how to do a patient screening. Its weird to think that we only have to pass off one more PE for this semester... It has gone by so so fast

Air Powder Polish and Sealants

Today was a lot of fun. The air powder polisher in my unit wouldnt work and so it took forever to figure it out but after that it all went well. Although I dont know how much I will use it on my patients because it tasted like you had a gallon of salt in your mouth... ya pretty sick. Ive done a few sealants in my office so it wasnt too new for me. I think sealants are one of my favorite things to do minus the salt :) The semester is almost over! YAY!

2nd Mock Patient Day

Today I was the patient and it was way nice to sit there all clinic! :) Mckenna did a way good job with everything! I learn something new everyday that we need to put in the tx record, and on the blue and green forms. Watching her scale in clinic made me want to get out of the chair and practice scaling too! We also learned how to sharpen our instruments but we had like no time to do it so Im not quite a pro and sharpening yet ha

Mock Patient Day

Okay when I found out I was an operater I was a little nervous but it actually turned out to be way fun! It took a long time and I still didnt scale the whole mouth... okay I didnt even finish a whole quadrant! It was nice to be able to see how everything runs..

Selective Polishing!

Today was a lot of fun! We did selective polishing on half the mouth then we brushed each others teeth on the other half. It was surprising to learn all the cons of selective polishing. I didnt know that it was just to remove stain! haha Today was a lot better.... maybe because I didnt scale :) Im going to try to practice this weekend on my husband. lucky him!

Scaling.... Scaling.... Scaling

Okay so I need more practice and I need to have more confident in myself! Today we used the disclosing tablets on each other and then scaled from there. Hopefully one day I will be able to see calculus without the tablets :)

Universal scaling

So I felt so confident scaling today on the typondont but once I tried scaling on my pod partner nothing felt right! The instructors said its harder when there is no calculus so hopefully Ill catch on.......... I just need lots of practice! Its fun to finally scale!

Intra oral camera

The intra oral camera seems pretty easy so that will be a fun PE to pass off :) Today we just practiced the intra oral camera and then practiced more on anterior intrumentation. I am slowly getting the hang of it but I still have a long ways to go! It was nice to use the disclosing tablets to help us see the calculus.... the only problem is we have very little of it! haha so Im excited to work on someone that has some good build up :)

Anterior Intrumentation!

Okay today was a lot of fun! I was bummed that we didnt have a ton of time to scale today but it was fun to finally be able to do it! Its still taking me awhile to get the positioning right and today i just found out that my fingers are double jointed so its kinda impossible to get up on my fulcrum without my finger bending! Lovely!

Passed explorer PE!

For some reason I have had I really hard time figuring out which end to use. But today I think I finally figured it out! With a ton of help from Costly! I really havent felt much calculus so Im excited to work on patients that I can actually feel the calculus! Well Im boring so I dont know what else to write...........

Lingual probing..... not good!

Okay so today I was feeling so confident with the probe until started probing the anterior Linguals. Wow! Me and the mirror could not get along and using indirect vision was not working for me. I came out of clinic a little frustrated with that today. I just need a lot more practice :(

Disclosing tablets!

Okay so I think the disclosing tablets are pretty neat! They taste sick but its cool that you can be able to detect plaque so easily! It took me awhile to go all the way through my pod partners mouth and chart the plaque because Im a little slow.... I need to work on becoming faster at being able to identify every tooth without counting them. I passed off two PEs today so that felt good. Overall clinic today went really well and went by super fast!

Dental Screening

Today was pretty fun. It was kinda hard finding the difference between a sealant and a composite on the occlusal surface. Its starting to make more sense what I need to put on the Green form and what needs to go on the treatment form. One of the TAs stuck the explorer on the occlusal of #18 in my mouth and said it could be a cavity!!!! AH!!!!! im gonna stress about that haha

Perio assessment

Today was a little confusing for me. It was hard to tell what was normal tissue and what was gingivitis. Probing is getting a little easier but Im still finding it hard to get a reading in the col area. I am so glad to get all the tests over with that we had last week! Im way glad we had a review in Hygiene, that helped me out a lot!

Probe

Probing was pretty fun! I have a hard time getting a good reading in the col area though. I would get a one on a molar and then have the TA do it and she would get a three :( So that is going to take some practice! Its still a little tough to try to determine how much pressure to put on the probe when Im doing the walking stroke. I think Im gonna have to make my husband be my ginny pig and take some bleeding for the team! ha!

Explorer!

I was a bit nervous to use the explorer I wont lie! It was confusing at first to know the right angle to use but by the end I somewhat got the hang of it. Luckily Katee is super patient with me and is always willing to help! I'm excited to be able to to feel calculus underneath there. I passed off the Health History PE today and the instructor told me I went a little overboard on what I wrote in the HHxRx. She told me that I could cut down everything I wrote in half and be fine.....which I was way excited about! :)

Fulcrums

Okay well I have been using the wrong finger placements and have not used a fulcrum for the two years I was an assistant so the whole fulcrum thing is taking awhile to get used to! I was trying to fulcrum on the left maxillary and my pinkie was like having a spaz attack and wouldnt let my index finger lay on the occlusals of the teeth haha. But I will get it done one day! :)

Clinic

Okay well I like taking vitals and the extra oral but I dont know about the intraoral. I think I have the extra oral down...pretty much but the intra oral is a completely different story! Hopefully I can memorize all the structures before I pass off the PE!

UDHA

Well the UDHA conference was very different than what I expected it to be. I was very surprised to see that the majority of people there were students. Not too mention it was a bit long :) But I really did have a lot of fun with all the girls! I love our class! We went on the tour to the perio office and I thought it was pretty neat with the camera thing and everything..... plus we were able to get a lot of pamplets for our OHI kits there. Hope everything is going well for everyone!

Stress!

Okay well I think everything is really sinking in now. There is so much to do. I am stressing about the Anatomy quiz next Tuesday for some reason. I know the teeth and the teeth numbers but once you turn them around and take them out of the models Im a bit confused. Im really going to have to study for that this weekend. I just need to calm down! ha ha

Feeling better.....

Right now I somewhat feel like I know a little about what is going on, Im getting my schedule down and everything we need for each class. I really like ethics because it gives us an opportunity to reflect our different ideas and opinions and to have some fun :) It is so nice to be with 28 girls that are so helpful and willing to help you out and answer questions and most of all just to be around! Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Clinic and Radiology

Ya know Ive decided I really enjoy the days we have clinic! Mostly because the days go by so much faster because we are doing stuff instead of sitting in class. Yesterday I was getting kind of frustrated with everything. I felt like I was getting so much information and not retaining a thing. After today and talking with girls they really made me feel better about things. Today was my long day so I just want to go home and crash! haha Radiology was really good today as well. At work I have always had a hard time with BWX because I always seem to overlap the teeth. Today I learned some techniques that helped out a ton to avoid that.

First Week of School---finished!

Well I did it I made it through the first week haha. It has been so much fun to finally be able to learn about what Im interested-----Teeth! I think I am starting to get the hang of things. Im learning to do things one at a time instead of stressing to get everything done at all at once. I hope everyone has a good labor day weekend! :)

Wednesday Aug. 27

Well this week has been totally different than what I expected it to be! But, so far I am having a lot of fun and Im getting way excited to learn more! Its been fun to get to know everyone! I feel like I have so many papers....papers...papers.....papers and I just need to organize myself. Hopefully by the end of today I will have my binder organized.
Clinic today was great. It was fun to be able to do something hands on even though we just worked on the tipodonts. I feel somewhat confident with learning the clock positions. Hope all is going well for everyone~!!!!!!

Initial Post

Hi everyone! This is my first post!
