Crazy day

Last week one of the doctors from Midtown found a class 4 so my name was drawn out of that hat to get her. I scheduled her for today and was planning on her staying all day so I could finish her in one day. She speaks spanish so I had Mr. Soloman help translate for me while doing the health history. She has diabetes but said she hasnt checked her blood sugar for 15 days. I took her blood glucose and it was soooo high. So I had to send her home :( In the mean time Mr. Soloman asked a patient from midtown if he wanted a screening while he waited for the dentist. I hurried and sat him in the chair and while I was probing I was just a little giddy because he was a 4!!!!!!!! I was able to clean one quad in the morning, he went and got his tooth pulled during lunch then came back in and I cleaned 2 quads and pam cleaned 1. It is such a great feeling to have all my requirements done now. It s so crazy how everything always works out!

Productive Day

Today was a good day! This morning I finished up my class 4 that I saw before spring break. I was able to pass off all my PE's for this year as well. This afternoon I saw two 1a's and placed 3 sealants. Now I just need three more quads of a 4 and I should be all set!

Finally a 4!

Today I finally saw a four!!! YAY!!! This patient was a little hard to work on because his tongue was a little large and his lip did not want me to retract it no matter how hard I tired. It all worked out though. I was able to use nitrous on him and passed off that PE.

LA Mockboards

LA mock boards went really well today. My patient was running late so Shalyce was so nice to be my patient and it all went so well. I passed both of my injections, but I need to have a better angle towards the midline on the PSA. Prof. Alexander told me to pretend that the needle is on the path towards the opposite eye and to pretend like there is an "x" over the face. That really helped out so much! Im excited to try it!

Search for 4's!!!

So I'm in need of class 4's!! I'm just crossing my fingers that 8 quads will come my way before school ends... which is sooo soon. I cant believe how fast this semester is flying by. My morning patient at the VA to day was a class 5 like usual but he told me his molars hurt when he bites down. The doctor came in and shined a light on the buccal surfaces of the molars and they all had fractures. It was really neat to see. If the light doesnt shine through the tooth then it means there is a fracture... I thought that was good to know and something we can do to see whats going on.

Board Patient-

Yesterday was quite a day. This morning I had 3 patients scheduled for a screening. Two of the patients were husband/wife and the wife was a board patient last year. So I was sooo excited to see her. Well she didnt come because she had a cough and her husband ended up being a 2 with not enough calculus. Then my 3rd patient I had looked in his mouth before and I knew he had tons of calculus. He walks in around 830 and when I go in the hall to get him he is gone. I asked if any knew where he went and they said he went to get his ID for a parking pass and 40 minutes later he comes back with his ID that he had to meet his wife to get!!! Stress!!! Charolette helped me out so much with him and I was able to do his screening, probe, take xrays and start on one quad. He just had way too much calculus for boards it was just everywhere. So I was again stressing because I really thought one of those three patients would be my board patients. Long story short Tandem screened a patient for Pam and Pam had already found one so she gave her to me. SO happy! She speaks spanish and Im not quite sure if she gets how important it is to come...... Im just praying it will all work out.
