Mockboards!!

So yesterday I called my patient to confirm her for today and her phone was disconnected! STRESS!!! I looked at her chart to see if she had put a different number on her health history than I had and the number was the same one. SO I called her emergency contact who spoke no english, so I had Mr. Soloman call the number and the lady said she had seen my patient today and would remind her later tonight about her appointment when she saw her. I still wasnt a 100% sure that she was going to come because I didn't talk to her and I wasnt sure if the lady we called would remind her of her appointment. Today, 8oclock rolls around and no patient. Finally she came at 8:20 and then after that all went pretty well. I ultrasoniced like crazy!!!! I missed two tiny spots which definitely could have done better but I will take that! Now I'm just waiting to see if I passed :s...

Great Day!

Today went really well. My morning pt was a class 5. She had an implant that was very tender with bone loss so Prof Hanson showed me how to place arestin. My afternoon pt was my class 3 from last week and her calculus on the lower anteriors were amazing!! There was so much of it and I loved using the ultrasonic on it.

Little bit of HUMBLE pie

Okay so my morning pt is my mock board pt and I scaled the left side. I thought I did so well scaling and was feeling good until I got a scale check and missed soo much!!! And its my mock board pt....!!! Stress!!! But I think I figured out what I did wrong. I need to ultrasonic longer, especially along the linguals. The good thing about this morning was that I took a full mouth... 16 down only... only 54 more to go haha. Then my afternoon pt was spanish speaking and right after I finish up the OD she tells me she needs to leave and it was 2 oclock! The good thing is that she is a 3 and hopefully come next week to start scaling.

Today I finshed my class 2 that I started on last tuesday. She was a great patient!I am really enjoying clinic so far. I feel like Im getting the swing of things a little and getting better at instrumenting. My Class 3 is coming in again this afternoon and Im hoping to finish her today.... cross your fingers! The calculus is sooooo tenacious but it has been a good learning experience for me.

HARD day!

This morning I saw a class 2 and did and OD and finished 1 quad so hopefully I can get her done next week then this afternoon I saw my class 3 that I started last week and oh boy her calculus will not come off. It took the entire afternoon to do one quad and Dr. Naylor and Instructor Wold both had to come in and scale. Its a great learning experience I will just be so glad to finish scaling her mouth! Thank goodness my patient is so great and always has a good attitude.

1st day of clinic

Last night my morning patient cancelled so I called every patient that Tory emailed me and no one could come! UGHHH So I called everyone I could think of and finally I scheduled two 1As a brother and a sister. Well 815 rolls around and the mom is outside with the boy and she didnt bring her daughter and when I finally seated the boy the mom said they needed to leave by 9! My patient was only three, he did pretty well but after 15 minutes he was done. So after 9 this morning there wasnt really anything for me to do!! I hope my afternoon patient comes!

Kinda tough

Today was kinda hard. I finished my class two patient. She speaks spanish and a little english. I had to pick her up from Morgan becuase she did not have a ride down here which was okay since she is a super sweet lady. The lower left quad was a peice of cake but the UL was another story. I could feel all of the calculus but I could not get it off! After some help from Angie with the ultrasonic it finally came off but it was so frustrating that I could feel it but no matter what I did it wouldnt come off! It was a good learning experience though. I am so excited for school to be over YAY!
